Coda Music Progress Update – Moving Towards Early Testing

Development of Coda Music continues to move forward steadily, and the project is now approaching the stage where broader early testing can begin.

For those discovering the project for the first time, Coda Music is ceremonial playback software designed for lodges, ceremonial organisations and venues where timing, dignity and simplicity matter. The aim is not to create DJ software, but a calm and reliable system that helps recorded music end gracefully and confidently during live ceremonies.

One of the biggest recent milestones is that we now have a working Windows installer package. This means the software can now be tested on separate computers outside the development environment, which is an important step towards real-world use.

Several significant improvements have also recently been added:

Live Ceremony Mode

A new Live Ceremony Mode has been introduced to simplify the screen during actual ceremonial use.

When enabled, setup and administration tools are hidden away so the operator can focus only on the controls needed during a ceremony, such as:

  • Play
  • Finish
  • Quick Fade
  • Resume
  • Stop

The goal is to reduce stress and minimise the chance of accidental changes during live operation.

Profile Support

Coda Music now supports multiple profiles, allowing different lodges, orders or organisations to share the same device while keeping their own ceremonies, playlists and settings separate.

This also opens the possibility of venues using one shared installation across several organisations.

Setup Checking

A Setup Check system has now been added to help users confirm the software is ready before ceremonial use.

This checks areas such as:

  • music availability
  • ceremony playlists
  • profile setup
  • finish files
  • and other important preparation items.

The intention is to provide reassurance rather than technical warnings.

Music Setup and Graceful Endings

Work has also continued on the music setup system, including:

  • batch music importing
  • ending track creation
  • adjustable crossfade settings
  • Quick Fade behaviour
  • and playback testing tools.

The graceful ending system remains the heart of the project. Rather than abruptly stopping recorded music, Coda Music allows the operator to press Finish and transition smoothly into a prepared ending track at exactly the right moment.

Manuals and Tester Documentation

The first pictorial tester manual and quick setup guide are now online to help early testers become familiar with the software before using it live.

These guides focus not only on setup, but also on confidence and calm operation during real ceremonial use.

Looking Ahead

The next stage will involve:

  • testing the installer on additional computers
  • refining reliability
  • gathering feedback from early users
  • and continuing development of the Flutter/iPad version.

The long-term aim is to provide ceremonial organisations with a simple, respectful and dependable playback system that feels designed specifically for ceremonial environments.

Live Ceremony Mode Added

One of the biggest recent improvements to Coda Music is the addition of Live Ceremony Mode. During live ceremonial use, setup and editing tools are hidden away, leaving a calmer and safer playback screen focused on Play, Finish and Quick Fade.

Why Coda Music Is Being Developed as a Multi-Platform Application

Early development of Coda Music began as a Windows-based project focused on solving a very specific ceremonial problem: allowing recorded music to end smoothly and gracefully during live ceremonies.

From the beginning, we always knew that organisations would want to use tablets and portable touchscreen devices during ceremonies rather than traditional desktop computers. Different users also had different preferences for hardware, with some favouring Windows devices while others preferred Apple tablets for live ceremonial use.

Because of this, the project direction evolved towards a single shared application design capable of operating consistently across multiple platforms, rather than maintaining several completely separate versions of the software.

This approach helps ensure that:

  • the user experience remains familiar across devices
  • features remain consistent
  • improvements benefit all users together
  • long-term development remains practical and sustainable

The overall aim is to allow Coda Music to develop into a calm, reliable ceremonial playback system that can eventually operate across a range of suitable devices while keeping the same simple and dignified workflow.

As previously reported, freemasons-web.com has now gone off line with all the webites that were still live, are no longer available.

At the end of last year, our technical team looked to find sites that were possibly still being used and have then made a back-up of them. Please contact us if you would like us to create you a new website based on your old one.

Many of our websites will disappear

Henry Catherwood

As our volunteer web master for my lodge I am now aware that freemasons-web.com, which we have used for about 10 years, is to close down.

Having looked around, I can find no other provider offering a low cost, simple and secure solution. So I am now creating one through my business Cloud Cortex Communications Ltd.

The first enhanced site has been completed. Take a look by following this link https://mitton-6904.masonicwebsite.org/
